Welcome Post

Welcome to learning adventures in Pre-K 4 :)

What is Pre-K 4 you ask?
Pre-K 4 is Pooh Bear Class with 20 "Piglets", "Pooh" of a teacher (Ms P-me) and "Tigger" of an assistant teacher (Ms. J) in a Pre-Kindergarten class located in a day care center in Georgia. It is one of the four Pre-K classes at the center we are in. Hence Pre-K 4. Yes we are Georgia Pre-K classroom (including the other 3 Pre-K classrooms) and follow Bright from the Start Curriculum.

We share classroom with Pre-K 3 and love the sharing business.... would not change it for anything :)) So we are in a huge classroom, divided into 2. We share the Home and Blocks center and so our schedules complement each other to ensure each class gets good enough center time without over crowding of kids. We have same schedules except for outdoor time and center time-we switch between those. Pre K 3's Lead Teacher "Ms. A" and assistant teacher "Ms S" and us Pre-K 4 teachers love working together and make an awesome team.

All teachers out there will agree...there is nothing like having another teacher working with you to plan lessons. Ms A. and I plan our lessons together with help from our assistant teachers (who have been doing their respective jobs for long time now and have tonnes of ideas for every theme we plan on). BTW this is both Ms. A and my first year teaching, and we both start in Pre-K classroom :) I know she will agree when I say, it is a big learning curve for us at this point. We also try and ensure both sides of the classroom are having similar experiences when it comes to learning.
Winnie the pooh is our class mascot and we have a medium size pooh that a child takes home every Friday and write in our "Adventures with Winnie" book (with parents help) about what they did with him. He is also part of our morning routine- as students come in, they give me a hug and shake hands with him.

Why Winnie the Pooh for mascot?
Pooh is a friendly bear, who is caring, gentle, and loves honey. Translating it to my classroom-I intend my students to be friendly, caring, gentle and have love for learning. One might say this is too much to expect from 4 year olds, when their minds still only understand I and Me....but they can be surprisingly caring and gentle friends. It is always fun to see that twinkle in their eye when they get what you are teaching them.

I love blogging (have 2 other blogs crafting blog: Kreative Kookiez and a generic blog: Life Scribbles over Coffee) and so after visiting quite a few teacher blogs.....I thought of starting a teacher/classroom blog to share activities we do, ideas (although most of ours are borrowed) and any experiences we come across while teaching.

I can not wait to start sharing.... and hope you will enjoy getting ideas.

Until next time......
